چکیده

We propose a phenomenological equation for the vortex line density in rotating BoseEinstein condensates as a function of the angular speed. This equation provides a simple description of the gross features of the increase in vortex number from the appearance of the first vortex to the theoretical rigid-body result for high vortex density, and allows one to compare with analogous situations in superfluid helium, after the suitable changes in the relevant parameters are made.

Azimuthal vortex clusters in Bose-Einstein condensates

We describe, analytically and numerically, topologically nontrivial stationary states with azimuthal modulation of density in a repulsive Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) confined in a harmonic trap. We show that, depending on the number of density peaks and total topological charge, these states can have a sophisticated phase texture associated with a vortex cluster. For a given topological char...

Efficiently computing vortex lattices in fast rotating Bose-Einstein condensates

We propose an efficient and spectrally accurate numerical method for computing vortex lattice structures in fast rotating Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) with strongly repulsive interactions. The key ingredients of the method is to discretize the normalized gradient flow under rotational frame by Fourier spectral method in space and by backward Euler method in time. Different vortex lattice st...

Dynamics of Rotating Bose-Einstein Condensates and its Efficient and Accurate Numerical Computation

In this paper, we study the dynamics of rotating Bose–Einstein condensates (BEC) based on the Gross–Pitaevskii equation (GPE) with an angular momentum rotation term and present an efficient and accurate algorithm for numerical simulations. We examine the conservation of the angular momentum expectation and the condensate width and analyze the dynamics of a stationary state with a shift in its c...

Quantum Global Vortex Strings in a Background Field

We consider quantum global vortex string correlation functions, within the Kalb-Ramond framework, in the presence of a background field-strength tensor and investigate the conditions under which this yields a nontrivial contribution to those correlation functions. We show that a background field must be supplemented to the Kalb-Ramond theory, in order to correctly describe the quantum propertie...

Vortex lattice locking in rotating two-component Bose–Einstein condensates

The vortex density of a rotating superfluid, divided by its particle mass, dictates the superfluid’s angular velocity through the Feynman relation. To find how the Feynman relation applies to superfluid mixtures, we investigate a rotating two-component Bose–Einstein condensate, composed of bosons with different masses. We find that in the case of sufficiently strong interspecies attraction, the...
